About the Show

Dj Daaang (Eric Richards) hosts the weekly radio show “Shortwave” on KUTZ.

Born and raised in Southern California, Eric was in high school when the New Wave and So Cal punk phenomenon was in its hay-day. Not content with just listening to his extensive record collection, Eric began making mixtapes for his friends of all the wonderful music the 80’s were providing. As he became more adept at mixing, his cassette tapes began to sound more like collages of sound and art rather than simple mixtapes. In the 90s, Eric relocated to Oakland and began to dabble in electronic music production under the names DigitalMultiplex and Galaxina 5 (later Galaxina 666). Though most of those recordings are lost to us now, a few copies can be found wandering around the internet.

Eric has been a special education teacher for the past 26 years and continues to help students with special needs as a behavior intervention specialist with Sacramento City Unified School district. He is married to a beautiful wife, Leslie, and they have one daughter. He continues to make digital mixes of obscure, psychedelic, electronic, and post-punk gems with the magic of digital streaming and artful curation.

“Shortwave” is all about breaking down barriers and celebrating the incredible tapestry of sound. From obscure techno to groovy psychedelic gems, ”Shortwave” guarantees something for everyone. Each segment of the show explores different sonic palettes that take the listener on a journey guided by unexpected connections for those who love to discover new sounds and revisit old favorites. It’s an unpredictable, genre-bending journey you won’t want to miss!
